    Parental Controls on a Macintosh Laptop

    To enable parental controls you will need your child's install account password. You can either get it from him or the technology department at SCIS can reset the child's password.

    • Once you have the password log into the computer.

    • Then go to: System PreferencesSystem Preferences
    • Then go to User AccountsAccounts
    • Then click on the lock to unlock things and loginLock
    • Then change the install password. This is so your child cannot get into the account.
    • Next you need to disconnect your child's account from the school network as a network account will reset the parental controls each time they login at school.
    • Click on Login Options
    • Then edit the network server
    • Then Highlight the SCISCHINA.org and press the minus (-) sign.
    • Then Unbind (you don't need a username and password)




    • Next unselect the checkbox that allows your son to administer the computer on his account. That means you will have to login periodically to install software or run software updates.
    • Next go to Show All
    • Select Parental Controls and you can manage your student's account.
    • You can limit the programs they can access, websites etc. If you decide to limit websites, please disable Mozilla Firefox as MacOS does not filter Firefox. Your child can use Safari instead.
    • You can also set time limits on your child's access to the web, or the computer, and log every site your child visits..
