Sometimes Illustrator has a conflict with the Smart Notebook (for Smartboards).
To resolve this:
1. Open a Terminal window. 2. Type the following command in the Terminal window:
Sudo rm /etc/launchd.conf<press Return, you will be prompted to enter your administrator password>
3. Reboot
